Almond: Looking into the mirror with a relaxed face, can you see the whites above or below your iris (the colored part of your eye)?

If you can not see white space above and below the iris because they’re covered by the eyelids - then you, my friend, have almond eyes.

See how simple that was?

Hooded: These eyes have an extra layer of skin on the upper lid which appears to droop over the crease (which tends to make the eyes look smaller than they are).

If you cannot see the crease in your eyelid when your eyes are open, you have hooded eyes.

Click to see a visible crease, slightly hooded eye and heavily hooded eye.

Monolid: These eyes have a distinct appearance where there is no visible crease or fold on the upper lid when the eyes are open, this is due to the flat nature of the lid. The brow bone is less defined and will require a bit more dimension.

You will know you have a monolid if your upper eyelid is smooth/creaseless.

It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish the difference between monolid and hooded eyes. The key difference between the two is found in the crease.

Monolid eyes have little to no crease where the eyes meet the socket while hooded eyes do have a crease; however, it is hidden beneath the fold of skin which covers it.

Round: Looking into the mirror with a relaxed face, can you see the whites above and/or below your iris?

If you can see white space either above and/or below (without opening your eyes wide), you have round eyes. These beautiful peepers are less than twice as long as they are wide.

Downturned: Downturned eyes droop slightly in the outer corners.

Looking straight into the mirror, imagine you have a horizontal line from the outside of your pupil. If the outer corner of your eye is below the imaginary line, you have downturned eyes.

Upturned: If you have a natural lift in the outer corner of your eyes, you have upturned eyes.

Looking into the mirror, imagine you have a horizontal line from the outside of your pupil, if the outer corner of your eye is above the imaginary line, you have upturned eyes.

Often you find this style with almond shaped eyes.

Lash Recommendations

Mild Styles - These feature a barely there type lash:

Natural - These styles feature a natural finish and vary from mild to moderate:

Cat Eye Shapes - Also known as flared lashes, cat eye lashes refer to the shape of the false lash. They elongate at the outer corners of the lash to bring a sweeping or alluring effect to the eyes:

Natural and Doe Eye Shapes - This refers to the shape of the false lash. Natural shaped false lashes mimic the natural growth cycle of our own lashes, with varied lengths throughout and does not work to alter the natural eye shape. Doe Eye, also known as fox, doll or round eye lashes, taper inward at both the inner and outer corners, with added length over the iris, which creates an illusion of a brighter, more awake eye:

Adding eyeliner to the bottom half or 1/4 of the outside lash line will instantly emphasize your eye shape.

Create an illusion of upturned eyes with a slightly upward V shape on the outer corners using your eye shadow (don't forgot to blend blend blend), cat eye looks are beautiful on almond eyes!

  • Airy Amour - The length on these would be perfect for someone with hooded and deep set eyes or someone who wants some eye-catching drama.
  • High Voltage - Long, dark and dramatic, these will curl up and over your lids for a show-stopping eye!
  • Material Curl - This is our TOP recommendation for thick lashes on hooded eyes
  • Doe's Lashes - If you have a heavily hooded eye, these might be too thick

When applying liquid eyeliner, make sure to tilt your chin up while looking into the mirror as this will bring the lid back, away from the lash line, enabling you to seamlessly apply the liner - hold this position for a little bit while it dries so that it doesn't transfer to your lid when you move your head down.

Applying shadow to an open eye will help you find your natural crease and assist with product placement, you want to add shadow just above your crease so that it doesn't get lost in the natural fold when you open your eyes.

Material Curl - Since this is quite a dense lash, if you naturally gravitate towards more natural styles, then you may want to avoid this one. However, if you like a heavier lash look - then this is your go to!

As monolid typically lack a bit of definition, tightlining the eye with a dark gel liner can have a huge eye enhancing effect!

Focusing on the lash line to define and lift them will instantly add depth and dimension. Did we mention how fierce a feline flick looks on this gorgeous eye?

Defining the lash line is key as it will dictate what you're going to achieve with your eye shape. Whether you're trying to highlight the beautiful shape you have by following your natural line or create a more almond look using winged eyeliner, the possibilities are endless! Bright colors on the lid are a great way to show off those bright eyes!

To help lift and open up your eyes, add a bit of highlighter under the arch of your eyebrow and to the inner corner of your eye to draw attention away from the downward shape and help make the eyes appear larger!

Adding a bit of symmetry and reducing the slope, a white eyeliner pencil on the lower lid creates an eye opening effect.

Cat eyeliner can also do wonders to balance out the eyes and create a lift!

Enhance those gorgeous eyes by placing emphasis on the upward slope.

Using a dome or angled brush, apply a bold shadow to create a sideways V shape on your outer corners and don't be afraid to go even further with a cat eyeliner!

Close-Set: These eyes are less than one eyeball width apart from each other.

Looking in the mirror, you are gauging the space across the bridge of your nose, between the inside corners of your eyes. If they are positioned relatively close together, they are close-set.

Wide-Set: These eyes are more than one eyeball width apart. Looking in the mirror, you are gauging the space across the bridge of your nose, between the inside corners of each eye. If your eyes are positioned more than one eyeball width apart, they are wide-set.

Deep-Set: These eyes are set deeper into the skull. Your brow bone will appear more prominent and you may find that your natural lashes graze your upper lid (but not always). Looking from the side, if your brow bone protrudes past your eyes, you've deep-set eyes.

Protruding: These eyes project outward in the eye socket. The eyelid on this particular eye appears larger, with a nearly-circular lid shape as the eyes project through them.

Adding a light or nude eyeliner to the inner corners is also another great choice!

Giving some attention to your brow bone can create an illusion of lift and work to pull the eyes forward, making mention to those gorgeous eyes.

Don't be afraid to try some sparkle on the lid, which will give the same eye popping effect.

I love the new curl line and Lisa provides the best customer service

I’m not a false lash person, but I have a wedding coming up and thought I’d give these a try. I followed the tips from the pros to apply the eyeliner and I was able to easily do it on my first try! The lashes were easy to position and once they were on they didn’t move at all!

Coming from someone who previously had lash extensions for 10+ years - these lashes and liner are amazing.
She has put so much thought and care into every detail; from the “how-to” videos she posts, down to the packaging - it’s all amazing.
